Back 2 Basics Artiste Collective - Jah Will Help Us All Project & CD single

Five years ago, Sister Carol and Sidney Mills (Steel Pulse) created the, Back to Basics Educational Fund, to raise money to support two school projects based in communities close to their hearts.
The Back to Basics schools is:

• AIRY CASTLE BASIC SCHOOL - St. Thomas, Jamaica
• JAMAICA RASTAFARIAN DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY (JRDC) SCHOOL - Shashamane, Ethiopia

0n opposite sides of the African Diaspora, both programs are in desperate need of financial support to keep the school doors open for the youth of their communities. In an effort to respond to the urgent need and to raise awareness, Sister Carol and Sidney invited their friends in the international music community to contribute their talents to the cause. The CD single, Jah Will Help Us All, was created.

To compliment the teachings of Martin Luther King, Sister Carol and Sidney selected the MLK holiday/ their mutual birthday, January 15th to host a fundraiser to raise funds for the Fund.

“Jah Will Help Us All” will be available on iTunes on June 21st, 2012.
After such date visit iTunes site to purchase the single to help our cause supporting the youth and families in Jamaica and Ethiopia.

Artist: JD Smoothe
Genre: Reggae/R&B/House/Soul/Lovers Rock
Born in Brooklyn, New York, John W. Lewis, a.k.a. JD Smoothe, was hailed as multi-talented from as early as five years old. Being the sole survivor of John and Elizabeth’s six children, “JD” was always mindful of his mission in life to be a singer in order to survive. At age 20, he performed at a talent show in Brooklyn at St. Gabrielle’s Church – winning first place in the competition. Encouraged by that response, he went on to perform at various concerts and shows throughout New York.
His hit, ”Earth Angel,” out on the “Joe Frazer” label in the U.K and his reggae remake of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” can be found on the VP Records’ compilation CD entitled “Sweet Love 16.”  He has extensive experience in performing R&B songs on the same stage with Burt Reid (Crown Heights Affair – Blue Magic – Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes – Jeffery Osbourne to name a few.  JD’s newest single entitled “Letter To Myself” is on VP’s “R&B Hits-Reggae Style, Vol II.”  On the “Total Satisfaction” label,  JD’s “Jesus Loves Me” displays his love for gospel music.  “Dark Skin Girls,” the hit single on Manila Jeepney’s label, features Jamaican DJ, Rusty Mac, and is still running well on the U.K. charts.  All of this talent lets us know that JD is about to re-emerge with promising results. In 1991, he signed an agreement with the Coxsone Dodd’s “Studio One” label producing, to date, two CD’s – one of which is titled “JD SMOOTHE” featuring songs such as “I’m So Proud” and “ Old Man Say” on popular pre-existing Coxson tracks.
From the upcoming “Classics” project, songs such as “Queen of the Minstrel,” “Losing You” and a stirring rendition of Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable” are all currently available. His 2009 album release “Smoothe Thoughts“ is produced by Sidney Mills, Barrington Bailey and Danny Miller for Living Room Records.  This album features covers of various R&B songs from the 80’s.  The album’s first single, “Do I Worry,” was released in July 2006.  In addition to a number of previously released singles, his current Gospel album “JD Smoothe and Friends” on the “Wearl G” label.

Artist: Brotha George

Genre: Gospel/Reggae/Spiritual/Christian

Biography

In the 1980’s gifted Jamaican reggae artist George Wright, now affectionately known as Brotha George, burst onto the scene with the Reggae and Dancehall hits “You Are the One I Love”, “Secret Admirer” and “I Love You”. Adorned with Wright’s classic vocals, which evoked memories of many of the great Jamaican rock steady artist of the past, the song soon rocketed to the top of the charts.
Still in his teens, Wright was well on his way to securing a career as a popular reggae icon for years to come, as he toured the world and delighted audiences.
Brotha George’s father loved Calypso music and his brother had been a member of the legendary Reggae band The Meditations.
His future was easily laid out before him, but the Lord had other intentions. In retrospect, the change in his life began conspicuously enough when he felt compelled to retire to bed one early evening at 7 p.m. He then spent the entire night dreaming of singing his composition “Journey”, which is currently on his latest CD “My Soul is in Your Hands” through VP records. So vivid was this dream that he awoke the next morning with a sore throat, prompting his mother to opine that this was indeed God’s call for him to use his talent and spread the Gospel.
Years later another call from the Lord came through as Wright stood to sing at a friend’s wedding. So impactful was his performance that the pastor presiding over the ceremony beseeched him to perform at church services the following day. The decision to completely dedicate his life and music to spreading the powerful message of God came two weeks later when, while driving, he became the victim of a head-on collision and walked away unscratched.
Brotha George Wright has continued to spread the word of the Lord through a ministry of exceptional songs and his amazing voice. With songs that speak to the spiritual hunger of his listeners.
His latest CD entitled “Worship with Christ” produced by Sidney Mills is being regarded as his best work to date. A true testament is his 4 nominations in 2012 Atlanta’s Caribbean Gospel Award – as best new male vocal.
