Back 2 Basics Artiste Collective - Jah Will Help Us All Project & CD single

Five years ago, Sister Carol and Sidney Mills (Steel Pulse) created the, Back to Basics Educational Fund, to raise money to support two school projects based in communities close to their hearts.
The Back to Basics schools is:

• AIRY CASTLE BASIC SCHOOL - St. Thomas, Jamaica
• JAMAICA RASTAFARIAN DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY (JRDC) SCHOOL - Shashamane, Ethiopia

0n opposite sides of the African Diaspora, both programs are in desperate need of financial support to keep the school doors open for the youth of their communities. In an effort to respond to the urgent need and to raise awareness, Sister Carol and Sidney invited their friends in the international music community to contribute their talents to the cause. The CD single, Jah Will Help Us All, was created.

To compliment the teachings of Martin Luther King, Sister Carol and Sidney selected the MLK holiday/ their mutual birthday, January 15th to host a fundraiser to raise funds for the Fund.

“Jah Will Help Us All” will be available on iTunes on June 21st, 2012.
After such date visit iTunes site to purchase the single to help our cause supporting the youth and families in Jamaica and Ethiopia.

Biography

In the 1980’s gifted Jamaican reggae artist George Wright, now affectionately known as Brotha George, burst onto the scene with the Reggae and Dancehall hits “You Are the One I Love”, “Secret Admirer” and “I Love You”. Adorned with Wright’s classic vocals, which evoked memories of many of the great Jamaican rock steady artist of the past, the song soon rocketed to the top of the charts.
Still in his teens, Wright was well on his way to securing a career as a popular reggae icon for years to come, as he toured the world and delighted audiences.
Brotha George’s father loved Calypso music and his brother had been a member of the legendary Reggae band The Meditations.
His future was easily laid out before him, but the Lord had other intentions. In retrospect, the change in his life began conspicuously enough when he felt compelled to retire to bed one early evening at 7 p.m. He then spent the entire night dreaming of singing his composition “Journey”, which is currently on his latest CD “My Soul is in Your Hands” through VP records. So vivid was this dream that he awoke the next morning with a sore throat, prompting his mother to opine that this was indeed God’s call for him to use his talent and spread the Gospel.
Years later another call from the Lord came through as Wright stood to sing at a friend’s wedding. So impactful was his performance that the pastor presiding over the ceremony beseeched him to perform at church services the following day. The decision to completely dedicate his life and music to spreading the powerful message of God came two weeks later when, while driving, he became the victim of a head-on collision and walked away unscratched.
Brotha George Wright has continued to spread the word of the Lord through a ministry of exceptional songs and his amazing voice. With songs that speak to the spiritual hunger of his listeners.
His latest CD entitled “Worship with Christ” produced by Sidney Mills is being regarded as his best work to date. A true testament is his 4 nominations in 2012 Atlanta’s Caribbean Gospel Award – as best new male vocal.

BIOGRAPHY

Listening, singing, being, Meta Dia (pronounced “Jah” in Senegal) embodies the philosophy of peace and un-derstanding through music. Born in Dakar, Senegal, not many days have passed that Meta has not made music one way or another. As a teenager, he rapped on the streets of Dakar under the moniker ‘Meta Crazy’ and later, knowing almost no one, save maybe himself, Meta moved to New York City to make music. In New York, Meta became enlivened by the Roots-Rock-Reggae that had been transplanted to America by the Jamaican exodus. After putting together a tight core of international musicians from the world over, Meta began experimenting with the sounds he heard in his own life; from the American soul and the traditional Senegalese singers played in his mother’s kitchen, to the reggae, rap and rhapsody on the streets of Dakar and Brooklyn. In the interweaving of these sounds with the numerous Afro-beats and Latin melodies pulsing and floating through New York’s vibrant musical enclaves, Meta and The Cornerstones was born.

Clive Chin renowned Jamaican record producer whose work includes seminal recordings by The Wailers, Dennis Brown, Lee “Scratch”Perry and Black Uhuru, among others said :
Meta and the Cornerstones have taken us back to the foundation of Reggae music. I’m from the old school and it reminds me of my days. It’s a band that sounds tight and wicked with infectious lyrics. The album is brilliant I give it a 5 star. My personal favorite is ‘Somewhere in Africa’.
Clive Chin- VP Records/17North Parade

Meta and the Cornerstones debut album Forward Music (2008) is available on Itunes and Amazon.

A remix of ‘Somewhere in Africa’ featuring Peetah Morgan has been released in February 2010 and premiered on National Geographic Music Website.

Meta is currently working on his second album and is recording at Tuff Gong, Jamaica…. Soon come!!

Derek Beres - “One of my favorite Reggae bands today is undoubtedly NYC-based Meta & the Cornerstones (myspace.com/metaandthecornerstones). Here they play a live set at the annual Africa Festival @ Celebrate Brooklyn - Meta Dia is from Senegal. The dreaded Shahar Mintz also plays guitar on a bunch of EarthRise SoundSystem tracks, so there’s family love here too.”
